CHANHASSEN — It was a good news/really bad news scenario for the Owatonna football team on Friday night.

The good news? The Huskies’ carved up the Chanhassen secondary to the tune of 255 passing yards, won the turnover battle 2-1 and rang up 24 first downs.

The really bad news?

They lost by three touchdowns.

In what will go down as one of the more bizarre decisions from a pure numbers standpoint in recent Owatonna football history, the Huskies lost 35-14 in a game that was utterly dominated by a singular talent that simply could not be stopped.

His name is Maxwell Woods, and he’s ultra-explosive.

Piling up a staggering 297 total yards on just 10 touches (9 carries, 1 reception) and scoring four touchdowns (three rushing, one receiving), Woods single-handedly carried the Storm on offense and pushed Chanhassen to 2-0 heading into the middle quarter of the regular season.

The Huskies, meanwhile, fall to 1-1 and must regroup quickly in preparation for a surging New Prague (2-0) squad that blew out perennial Class 5A powerhouse, Chaska, 35-6 on Friday night.

Despite seeing his completion percentage dip thanks to five dropped passes by three different receivers, Ginskey still managed to complete 24 of 45 throws for 255 yards. His pile-moving short touchdown run with 7 minutes, 55 seconds left in the second quarter drew OHS within 14-7 and came one snap after Jamie Lisowski intercepted a pass near the right sideline and returned it all the way to the Storm 2 yard line.

As it was all evening, Chanhassen countered with Maxwell Woods.

Having already burned the Owatonna defense for runs of 84 and 91 yards, Woods — who is committed to FCS powerhouse North Dakota State University — escaped out of the backfield on a fly route and hauled in a 61-yard touchdown lob to account for the first of two Chanhassen touchdowns in the final 6:55 of the second quarter to blow the game wide open.

The Storm, who led 28-7 at halftime, scored their only touchdown of the second half when — you guessed it — Woods escaped for a 43-yard touchdown jaunt with 7:35 left in the third.

Ginskey was sacked five times and lost 39 yards on those plays, leaving OHS with a net of just 51 rushing yards on 34 carries. Not counting the sacks, OHS managed only slightly better (90 yards on 29 carries).

Nolan Ginskey snatched 12 passes for 129 yards. Caleb Hullopeter — who had a 62-yard touchdown in the second half called back due to a holding penalty — added six grabs fir 90 yards.

Noah Truelson spun a 16-yard touchdown pass to Nathan Theis on the last offensive snap of the game to solidify the final score.

UP NEXT: The Huskies host New Prague at 7 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 15 at Federated Field. The Trojans led 35-0 at the end of the third quarter against Chaska in Week 2 and have out-scored their first two opponents a combined 52-6.
